What Is Ready-Mix Concrete, and How Is It Different from On-Site Mixing?
Ready-mix concrete is batched at a plant and delivered directly to your job site in a truck that keeps the mix fresh and uniform. This method ensures consistent quality, precise mix proportions, and reliable strength for every project.
On-site mixing, on the other hand, requires workers to manually measure, mix, and adjust concrete right at the job location. That process can lead to inconsistent results, slower project timelines, and higher labor costs.
How Much Ready-Mix Concrete Do I Need for My Project?
The amount of ready-mix concrete you’ll need depends on the size and dimensions of your project. Concrete is typically calculated in cubic yards by multiplying length × width × depth (in feet) and then dividing by 27. For example, a 10' × 10' slab that’s 4 inches thick requires about 1.25 cubic yards of concrete.
Other factors that affect your total include:
- Project type (driveway, patio, foundation, commercial floor, etc.)
- Thickness of the slab or pour
- Site conditions (grading, base preparation, reinforcement needs)
Because every job is different, our team is happy to help you calculate the exact volume for your project. We’ll also recommend the right mix design to match your application, whether residential, commercial, or industrial.
What Is Concrete Boom Pumping?
Concrete boom pumping is the use of a truck-mounted pump with a long robotic arm containing a pipeline. This allows operators to reach around obstacles, over buildings, and to great heights to get concrete into hard-to-reach areas. It is powered by hydraulic equipment to send the concrete long distances when necessary.
Can Boom Pumps Be Used for Both Residential and Commercial Jobs?
This form of pumping is great for commercial projects such as office buildings, residential foundations or basements, and industrial warehouses, to name a few examples. Our team will work with you to determine the best concrete pumping solution for your project.
Will Rain Affect My Concrete Project Timeline?
Rain doesn’t stop every concrete project, but it can slow things down. Light rain can often be managed with coverings, while heavy rain may push your scheduled pour back to another day. Professional crews know how to adjust mixes, protect fresh concrete, and keep your timeline as precise as possible despite weather challenges.
Do You Offer Type 1L Cement (PLC)?
Type 1L cement, also called Portland Limestone Cement (PLC), is a sustainable alternative to traditional Portland cement that uses finely ground limestone to reduce carbon emissions. When used in ready-mix concrete, it delivers the same strength and durability as standard cement. Type 1L mixes are handled virtually the same as traditional mixes, so your concrete can be placed efficiently on any project.
